Stories from the Battlefield
No Left Turn in Education has been highlighting how politicization and radical indoctrination are rapidly replacing objectivity in the American classroom. This week, we expose how a small but vocal group of radical activists are calling the shots on what your children read and learn.
Activist Educators Brazenly Undermine Parents
Across the country, parents are demanding that the primacy of their rights in the education of their children must not be trampled. But many activist educators and librarians aren’t conceding. Instead, they are doubling down on their efforts to undermine parents and make school the moral authority in a child’s life.

Take this tweet from a school librarian, who shamelessly brags how she instructs students on how to circumvent their parents to access sexually explicit books in the school library. It was retweeted by author Alex Gino, whose book George (“recommended” for children as young as 8 years old) tells kids that they can research transgender hormone treatments and surgeries in secret by deleting their parents’ web browser history:
Arlene Laverde, by the way, is the past president of the New York City School Librarians Association and the current president of the 2022 Council for the New York Library Association. Such brazen behavior deserves a censure from her organization, but don’t hold your breath. More likely, her Association will condone her behavior and she will co-opt thousands of other librarians in the Empire State and beyond to act in blatant disregard for parents’ rights to determine what books are appropriate for their children.

Laverde is but one of many librarians who participate in this conspiracy. NLTE has received numerous taunting e-mails from librarians who share her twisted mentality. Here is a typical example:
(ACAB stands for “All Cops are Bastards” - a rallying cry made ubiquitous during the BLM riots of 2020.)
At least we know that when we call out sexually explicit, racist, and anti-American content in schools, the woke educators and librarians are listening! To be clear, NLTE never objects to content that teaches students about diversity and emphasizes that ALL people are due respect, in line with the teachings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is important that literacy imparts life’s lessons. But what we object to is educators and librarians purposefully preventing parents from knowing what their kids are learning and their refusal to partner with parents in the selection of classroom content.

PARENTS PUSH BACK

Parents have been exposing the offensive books found in their children’s schools, making lists, and expressing objections at school board meetings and to school staff and state legislators. One of the many parents who have reached out to us shared a story of her child's school’s deliberate evasion. Requesting anonymity, this parent objected to the book Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe being assigned to her high school freshman. She was taken aback by the sexually explicit content in the book, including a graphic description of seduction between two male teenagers.
This parent spoke out by posting her review of the book on Amazon. Her review included quotes directly from the book, so parents could see the R-rated content being assigned to their kids. Amazon refused to publish her review, saying it contained inappropriate content, though she was quoting directly from the book!

Still, she did not give up the fight:

"I resubmitted four more times, omitting the quotes. They still refuse to publish my one-star review. Yet, the interesting thing is that they changed the recommended age from K-8 to over 12 years old."

If the content was too graphic for an Amazon review, why was it recommended for children as young as kindergarten? Still, why is sexually explicit content appropriate for school age children at all?

Activist educators and librarians will stop at nothing to undermine parents who stand in their way. No Left Turn in Education, an organization of common-sense Americans, stands vigilant and at the ready to protect our children from the radical forces who seek to erase American values from education.
